The antioxidant effects of Antroquinonol for the improvement of cerebral function, memory and cognitive function

There is an increasing incidence rate of diseases related to the brain due to the lifestyles carried out by society.  At the same time, people begin to lose various cognitive and cerebral functions over time.
This has prompted the scientific community to focus on producing medications that directly fight free radicals and exercise antioxidant effects on the brain. It has been shown that Antroquinonol, an extract from the mushroom Antrodia camphorata, can potentially eliminate these free radicals.
An affected brain
More and more cases of mild cognitive deterioration have been currently observed, which in turn causes the development of dementia in men and women. These problems originate from the accumulation of excessive of special proteins that cause atrophy in the brain and reduce bodily capacities.
This occurs because neurons decrease or die off. It seems like something simple, but it has become a significant medical problem that affects people worldwide. Those who suffer from this condition have memory loss, limited judgement, detriment in their cognition and trouble with language.
Experts estimate that over time, the number of people affected by cerebral problems will triple, in addition to the increased economic spending needed to care for afflicted patients. As a result, thousands of research institutions and pharmaceutical companies are focusing on developing effective medications.
At the time of writing there have been no revolutionary advancements in this camp due to obstacles in attempting to achieve therapeutic effects in the brain.
This is due to the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which limits the exchange between the circulatory and nervous systems, meaning no substances with a molecular weight of over 500 can pass the double layer of lipids. Nonetheless, other antioxidants and medications with the ability to produce preventative or curative effects are still being studied.
Antroquinonol, one possibility
A few years ago, the company Golden Biotechnology Corporation published a study that explained the effects of Antroquinonol, a component from the extracts of Antrodia camphorata, a mushroom native to the mountains of Taiwan and well-known in traditional Chinese medicine.
The research demonstrated that this substance has the capacity to reduce the amount of cerebral amyloid in order to improve learning and memory capacity. The results were obtained from a transgenic mouse model that went under experiments for a lapse of two years.
Among the most notable discoveries were that dietary supplements containing Antroquinonol had the capacity to penetrate brain tissue. At the same time they inhibited the effects of free radicals which are responsible for causing a decline in learning and memory.
They were able to prove that this substance of Taiwanese origin improved brain functions because less senile plaques accumulated in the brain and because of anti-inflammatory effects on the brain tissue.
Antroquinonol improves antioxidant function in the brain and reduces the potential of negative substances from forming. Its inhibitive effects offer hope for those who have been tirelessly searching for medications that improve cognitive function.
On the test subjects that underwent the study, there was a notable decrease in brain tissue damage. Additionally, they were able to conclude that a higher consumption of this substance guaranteed a higher inhibition of key proteins involved in the disease.
Meanwhile, the substance was also able to reduce glial scarring in the hippocampus of the brain and a minimized expression of the glial fibrillary acidic protein was also observed. Both of these instances give certainty to the positive effects it has on the brain.
In summary it can be said that Antroquinonol produces antioxidant effects for the improvement of cerebral function, memory and cognitive function. We are talking about a significant scientific advancement.
