Can pancreatic cancer be prevented? An extract derived from the medicinal mushroom Antrodia camphorata has been clinically studied in the fight against cancer

Pancreatic cancer is one of the highest ranking in cancer-related deaths. Thousands of investigations currently deal with the objectives of effective prevention and treatments. Scientists are now honing in on the derivative of the mushroom Antrodia camphorata which has been found to have important compounds to fight this disease.
Many studies indicate that there is no one infallible method to prevent pancreatic cancer, since it is impossible to alter the risk factors. Regardless, it is possible to develop various healthy habits to reduce the risk.
A medicinal agent against cancer
In the scientific camp, Antrodia camphorata is making waves in the fight against cancer. We are talking about a mushroom native to Taiwan which has become a valuable contribution to medicine. Some results indicate that it can exhibit an anti-tumor effect in humans.
The three main components extracted from this mushroom are triterpenoids, polysaccharides and glucan, which guarantee efficacy. These substances exercise a selective cytotoxic effect against pancreatic cancer cells. In addition, they help to notably inhibit the capacity of BxPC-3 cells to migrate and increase the number of normal cells in the sub-G1 phase while inhibiting them in the G2 phase.
In other words, Antrodia camphorata is noted as an important potential therapeutic treatment against pancreatic cancer, given that it produces a cytotoxic effect against a group of cells while inhibiting cellular migration, inducing mitochondria-mediated apoptosis.
Due to these results, researchers have defined this Taiwanese mushroom as a significant element of traditional Chinese medicine that protects the human body from various health-related pathologies.
Clinical studies focusing on cancer are ongoing. With all the research that is undertaken, we find more hopeful discoveries by the day. Whether in the east or in the west, therapies based on Antrodia camphorata have been implemented with successful results.
A natural treasure
Thanks to the careful study of the raw extracts and bioactive compounds from the mushroom, its biological activities have been defined. For example, in the case of raw extracts, they have been found to present functions that are anti-carcinogenic and even vasorelaxant.
Until now 78 compounds have been identified from Antrodia camphorata. The ones that stand out for their biological activities are benzenoids, terpenoids, lignans, polysaccharides and several derivatives like succinic acid, maleic acid and benzoquinone.
According to research, both the raw extracts and purified compounds from the mushroom are useful in controlling several types of common diseases. Clinically it is considered an efficient phytotherapeutic alternative and a synergistic key in the treatment against cancer and many other pathologies related to the immune system.
Based on this scientific research, companies have started to produce medication using natural extracts from Antrodia camphorata to reduce the devastating effects of several diseases in humans.
Fighting pancreatic cancer
Some risk factors for pancreatic cancer are related to age, gender, race and genetics, which cannot be controlled. While the effects of the Antrodia camphorata mushroom against pancreatic cancer are still being investigated, the following practices are recommended to lower the risk:
-          Avoid smoking
-          Keep a healthy weight
-          Exercise regularly
-          Reduce the consumption of alcohol
-          Avoid exposure to certain chemical substances
If you follow these tips, the chances of suffering from pancreatic cancer will be notably reduced and the mortality rate for this cancer will be sure to plummet as well.
